Three little birds

He awoke suddenly, covered in sweat. For a moment, his bedroom didn’t seem his own. It had happened before though; and he could tell it had happened to many people. What I know is that it has certainly happened to me. I wake up, from a dream or a nightmare, and I don’t know where I am. I try to find the walls or the door (still lying in bed, I mean), or at least try to figure mi position in the bedroom but can’t.

Anyway, the alarm clock had been ringing for about seven minutes – a lifetime. It may seem a short time for some people, but for those on the clock, it is definitely a lifetime. Thomas rushed to the toilet, roughly brushed his teeth and left to work. Of course he didn’t notice he was half naked, he wouldn’t have gone out if he had. Luckily, it was still too early in the morning and there weren’t people in the streets. On the traffic lights in the corner, there stood a bird, a black bird, much like a crow, which alerted him. “You should wear something smarter to work.” Thomas looked upwards. He froze. He rubbed his eyes, like little kids do when they do not believe their eyes. “You know, half naked doesn’t seem the best choice,” the bird said. Thomas thought he was losing it. He ran away, back home of course, to get dressed.

Now, what happened next is what I find striking. You could believe that a bird told him to get dressed. We all know birds are kind animals. But this is somewhat strange. There was another one at his door. A yellow tiny bird grabbed the door knob and opened it for Thomas. The man doubted, but staying in the street in his underpants wasn’t the greatest of things. He walked in, as calmly as he could. “You should hurry, you know? It’s not like they are going to wait forever.” Thomas blinked a couple of times. “Are you…. D Do you…. H How?” he stammered. The bird pulled a face on him – a what-is-this-guy-thinking-of face. “C’mon dude, you’d better run.”

The bird was right. He’d better run. He knew he would get fired if he was late once again. “Never mind, you look a nice guy, I’ll get you a ride,” and saying this, the bird started singing very loud. Before Thomas was ready, there was an eagle at the door. It had great brown and white wings, a yellow curved beak and giant sharp claws. It grabbed Thomas by his coat and took it to work. “B… B… But how is this possible? You don’t even know where I work.” Thomas was flipping out. “Oh, we know. Don’t worry, we sure know,” the bird said. It gained altitude and in a matter of three minutes it went down again, dropping Thomas in front of his office. He straightened his clothes and went right in, trying to make out what had just happened.
